I Swear, I Like Radiohead

I’ve been spending much of the last week reacquainting myself with a band I mostly stopped listening to after 1998: Radiohead.

Always loved Ok Computer. Paranoid Android is pretty incomparable and, along with the rest of the album, showcased a band that stepped up the art in a big way. However, the Radiohead debate has always pitted the Bends against Kid A with Ok Computer in the middle.

Last week I decided to catch up. I acquired all the albums before and after OK Computer and have been trying to make some sense of it. Not an easy task. Kid A is a subtle punch in the face upon first listen (I will listen more, I promise). I can definitely see why that album represents the pinnacle of the Radiohead discography for a lot of fans.

In some ways I found that the more artsy records provide similar listening experiences to Sigur Ros’ albums. Unfortunately I’m biased there so I’ll avoid the impending backlash by commenting further.

One thing I do want to say for certain is that Fake Plastic Trees is one of the most beautiful and powerful rock songs of all time. Excuse me while I go listen again and again.
